Yoshi
Jacobson began her classical dance training at the age of five, joining
Khulsum's school of dance, where she was trained in jazz and
contemporary techniques. This early technical foundation opened
the door to a future of dance, as she undertook an amazing 28 years of
International-Competition-Level training in Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Jive,
Waltz, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz and Tango, Choreography, Hip-Hop, Modern,
Classical, African & Street Dancing, Ballet, and Ballroom, among others.
She has studied at a broad range of schools, including 5 years at the
Laban Centre for Dance in the UK. In 1997, Yoshi opened "The
School of Dance Moves" for children aged 8 to 18 in Sri Lanka. Her
school's most notable achievements are first place in Sri Lanka's "All
Island Dance Schools Competition" in 2001, and first place in Hip-Hop in
Sri Lanka's "International Schools Dance Competition" for four
consecutive years! While developing her school and students, Yoshi
continued to develop herself professionally, mastering a wide variety of
dance styles and winning numerous awards and prizes that include First
Place in both the International Ballroom Championship in Singapore and
the National Latin American Dance Championship in Sri Lanka. Yoshi
is also an accomplished choreographer, having professionally
choreographed productions of Little Shop of Horrors, West Side
Story, Wizard of Oz, South Pacific, Annie Get Your
Gun, Phantom of The Opera, King and I, Moving On,
The Hunch Back of Notre Dame, The Boyfriend, Oliver,
Cinderella, Reading Ritin and Roking, A Musical
Kaleidoscope, and Greece. Yoshi now has over twelve
years experience teaching Hip Hop, Modern, Ballet, Jazz, Latin, and
Ballroom dance styles, and is more enthusiastic than ever to pass on her
knowledge to those who are passionate to learn.
